Evening Standard Online - Front-row seats: London’s Illuminated River project will light up the capital’s new Thames-side homes — from west London to Tower Bridge

Thursday, October 25, 2018

The enduring appeal of living along the Thames is about to get stronger with The Illuminated River project, a £20 million art installation that will light up 15 road, rail and pedestrian bridges from Albert Bridge in west London to Tower Bridge in the east. The designs are by US artist Leo Villareal, working with award-winning architects Lifschutz Davidson Sandilands.

The “kinetic” display of energy-efficient LED lights will appear to move and shimmer. The first set of bridges will be lit up next year and the designs are different for each. Southwark Bridge’s arches will be set off by deep purple lights, while Westminster Bridge’s green paint will be washed with green lighting.
